Speaking and Book Event in Chicago

This past week, I attended the SBIA (Small Business Investors Alliance) Midwest Deal Summit in Chicago. I presented on the topic, The Future of Hybrid Work: Managing the Unseen. Thank you to HR expert and podcast guest Paul Falcone contributions to this presentation. Fascinating to see the current trends in working remote. For those who are able to work remote, most organizations have moved to a required 3-day onsite workweek. While the Department of Labor reported that 72.5% of all businesses said their employees teleworked, rarely or not all in 2022; compared to 60% in 2021.

Repeat after me…

My sincere apologies for the triple email last week; we had a technology glitch.

The going forward goal is to have this delivered Saturday AM, i.e., Strategy for Saturday blog.

This past week, my delay was due to attendance at a lovely family wedding in Capon Springs, West Virginia, with very limited internet access. Congrats, Mark and Ashley Lutz! Day after picture below…

Dr. David Stern, MD, CEO, and Experity founder, has shown if your suppliers are unable to solve your operational and client service challenges, perhaps you can. With a new insight, hard work, and risk-taking, Experity is now the leader with integrated solutions to 50% of the urgent care market in the US.

Here is the podcast link.

Selected Book Reviews:

“Carl has done a great job distilling some of the most critical components of strategy for a small and medium business with this book, plus made it entertaining and approachable with his approach of writing it as a leadership fable. The CAPTAIN methodology is a simple one to follow that I think can be highly impactful!

I’m a former Amazon leader, and I found it very interesting how many of the concepts he covered were used in practice there. Some examples include defining a 3+ year vision, using leading vs trailing KPIs, defining programs (Journeys) with clear deliverables and owners, and creating strong core values in your culture that support your long-term vision. These are all proven and effective concepts a new or strategy-challenged business leader can follow.

This would be a great book for new entrepreneurs, small to mid-size business leaders, or larger business leaders struggling to define or execute strategy for their functions.”
