Deer in the Headlights
Driving to work, this spotted fawn froze in the middle of the road. Fortunately, I had plenty of time to slow down. The deer still did not move. I waited. I took this picture. Waited. Finally, the baby deer discovered its mom and trotted into the field to catch up. Back to safety.
If I wasn’t paying attention, this little deer would not have made it. I am not sure if the fawn had known what hit them.
In my discussions with middle-aged entrepreneurs and CEOs regarding ChatGPT, I get the same feeling they are like this fawn.
Here is a sample of their statements regarding ChatGPT:
“I am planning to get around to that.”
“We have been so busy; we have had not had time.”
“Yes, I used it once for a job description, it was helpful.”
“My company will not allow me because…”
“ChatGPT is getting less accurate. I can’t trust it.”
“How do you log in?”
Fabio Duerte, wrote on his July blog Exploding Topics some of the following facts:
In just 5 days, ChatGPT surpassed 1 million users, which was a record. For context, it took Facebook 10 months to reach one million users. There were 173 million users in April 2023.
ChatGPT has been visited 1.6 billion times in July, with 4.26 average page views, for 7 minutes and 27 seconds. Of note, that did fall from 1.8 billion times in June. (Oh, it’s just a fad.)
My biggest concern is the lack of awareness for business owners. Only 9% of people, who are 45-64, have used it to generate text. 55% have never used it or seen anyone use it.
Deer in the headlights. They can’t see the 18-wheel logging truck coming down the hill.
Follow the Money
Today, generative AI reminds me of the internet in the 1990s. For non-tech nerds, the internet was difficult to search until Yahoo!, was released in 1994. Then Google was released in 1998, and that accelerated the internet adoption. The internet company boom was in full swing, until the internet bubble burst in early 2000.
But there were winners. And the internet is still here. Kids today (chuckle, under 35) can’t imagine what the world was like without it. (Think Britannica Encyclopedia versus Wikipedia.)
Folks, the money is going to AI. (See link to Great Learning) The 2nd Vision fund, Microsoft, Apple, and Foxconn has raised $108 billion this year. MIT alone has committed $1.1 billion to research. Microsoft has invested another billion into OpenAI (i.e., ChatGPT.)
There will be a bubble. There will be winners and losers. But generative AI, is not going away.
The Tower of ChatGPT Babel
Today, Generative AI is like the Wild West and quite confusing. It feels like the pre-Yahoo days of the internet boom. For example, we use AIPRM, a Chrome extension within ChatGPT. There are already 4,197 prompts! (BTW – A prompt is an easier way to generate a more clear answer to your question in ChatGPT.)
Talk about deer in the headlights. Users are getting frozen. They don’t know where to go next.
I believe this is a contributing reason as to why user adoption has recently decreased.
Using ChatGPT for Strategy
We believe the solution is creating a clear purpose with ChatGPT. Our purpose is to use ChatGPT to accelerate strategic plan creation to grow your business.
This last week, we developed a prompt on how to create a Vivid Vision for our ChatGPT Growth Plan course. It’s awesome!
For those who are not familiar with a Vivid Vision, it’s a detailed description of how your company will change the world externally and internally (think People, Processes and Systems) in 10-years or more. The problem, it can be rather time-consuming, but our prompt accelerates this process rapidly.
The Vivid Vision creates a clear roadmap for where your 3-year Growth Plan should be guiding you.
We create this because it helps make sure you keep moving forward. Our goal is to make sure your business is not another fawn in the middle of the road.
