A Two-Year Celebration

Two years ago, my first book LOST at CEO, an Entrepreneur’s Guide to Strategy, was published with a clear purpose, to help leaders who feel stuck or overwhelmed find a better path forward through strategy. I wrote it for entrepreneurs, executives, business leaders, and operators who know they need to think strategically… but don’t know where to go next.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the book reach hundreds of readers across industries and countries. But along the way there have been surprising moments that have reminded me why this work matters.

Recently, I was sitting in the doctor’s office waiting for a routine checkup. My doctor said, “So, who is this famous author?” Initially, I did not know what he was talking about. Then he said, “I saw another patient reading your book, Lost at CEO. I read it myself and I have been referring to your book to everyone I know.”

He wasn’t in a corporate boardroom, nor leading a Fortune 500 company. He is a doctor, in his family practice, who had found value in something I’d written, so much so that he was recommending it to others.

It was one of those humbling moments in my life. Because that’s what I didn’t expect.

Sharing Pictures and Stories

I have been flattered by readers posting pictures or sharing stories of how they have applied the CAPTAIN Strategy methodology. It’s exciting to hear leaders change their terminology from “accomplishing a goal” to “reaching a new destination.” Last month, I had a business owner who went through our 40 Strategy facilitation process, said he just had a new baby and had just sold his business, “The Captain Strategy was a key element of crafting the narrative and getting the deal done. So I owe you a big thank you!”

I wrote the book to support strategic thinking in business, but it has also helped leaders in not-for-profits and government agencies. It has also reached people navigating tough seasons, trying to lead better in their families, communities, and personal lives.

Over these two years, I’ve learned that strategy isn’t just a business tool. It’s a way of thinking, a discipline that gives us clarity when everything feels uncertain. And most of all, it gives us the confidence to keep moving forward, one decision at a time.

To everyone who’s read the book, shared it, or built conversations around it, thank you. You’ve reminded me that we’re never truly stuck when we lead with purpose.

If you haven’t read LOST at CEO yet, you can find it here on Amazon or Audible. If it helps even one more person take the next right step, that’s more than enough.

Here’s to building better strategy, and better leadership, together.
